With millions of species of plants in the world, how did our forefathers know which of the plants have medicinal values? It may have been like finding a needle in the haystack. In some villages in remote areas of the world, there are still families that consult the old medicine man of the village, one that knows every plant and its medicinal importance.
One such plant in history is the juniper plant species.
There is a variety of juniper plants found all over the world in all shapes and sizes. Some grow low as shrubs and some are as tall as 100 feet. Some of these evergreen plants are found in a miniature size called the Bonsai.
Other than being an ornamental piece for landscaping, the juniper plants have been known to produce berries that are used as spice for cooking, making beverages and medicinal uses in the olden days.
Young Living Essential Oil uses the Juniperus osteosperma and juniper scopulorum species for therapeutic essential oils. They are found mainly in Utah and Rocky Mountain.
According to Utah State University, Utah juniper or Juniperus osteosperma are usually bushy trees that have an extensive root system and can live up to 650 years.
The Rocky Mountain juniper or juniper scopulorum was used by the Cheyenne for relieve of persistent cough or tickling throat. It was also believed to give calming effect and speed childbirth. Other Native American tribes made tea from juniper boughs, branches and fleshy cones.
The Native Americans used it for colds, fevers, tonsillitis, diabetes, contraceptives for females and pneumonia.
According to folklore, during medieval times, bundles of juniper berries were hung over doors or burnt to ward off evil spirits. The Chinese and Japanese have the miniature version called Bonsai for fertility and longevity.
Just like the Native Americans, many other people groups used juniper over the century for cleansing infections, fevers, arthritis, urinary tract infections, pulmonary infections and kidney and bladder problems. The French used it for acne, dermatitis and eczema.
According to Reference Guide for Essential Oils, this oil evokes feelings of health, love and peace and may help elevate your spiritual awareness. It can be done by applying it on your forehead to enhance feelings of optimism, on the cheeks for confidence and euphoria.
One: Helps reduce acne, dermatitis and eczema just like what the French had historically done.
Virginia J. of Georgia used Juniper to treat acne. This is what she said:
I am 38 years old and I have some acne for several years, I always think that was due to hormonal problems, a French friend of mine tell me that he did have the same problem due to liver problems and He fixed on 2 and half years by taking some juniper oil.
For one year now, I take 3 drops on cap daily during the winter and 5 drops during summer, my skin have completely clear up, but if I forgot to take my oil 2 day's in a row, the acne coming back. So far it help a lot, but did not cure. I clearly believed that my acne is due to liver problem and not hormonal.
Two: It helps with Kidney Stones
Here is a powerful healing result from Tracy R. from Texas said:
Kidney stones are no fun! My husband describes it as the body trying to push a watermelon or a jagged bolder through a garden hose only on a much smaller visual scale, and more constant pain than he has ever experienced! He has had, on four different occasions, the experience of dealing with kidney stones, twice requiring an emergency room visit or doctor office visit. This past year we were introduced to Young Livings Essential Oils and with my husband's most recent kidney stone attack we applied oils to see if we could avoid another expensive emergency room visit and pharmaceutical treatment.
The EODR suggests the single oils of wintergreen/birch, geranium, juniper, helichrysum, fennel, and lemongrass; And making a blend of Eucalyptus radiate, Geranium, and Juniper.
I layered 5 to 6 drops of each of Panaway, RC, Lemongrass and Juniper over his kidney and gave him a glass of purified water with 5 to 6 drops of lemon in it. Within ten minutes, the pain switched from on to OFF! Just like a light switch the pain was gone! Three days later, he passed the largest stone ever without any pain and without any visible blood. A week after that, again he passed another notably sized stone without pain or visible blood. We believe Young Living's Essential Oils are responsible for my husband's quick recovery and will continue to make major differences in our health and lives. God is so good to bring these oils into our lives to be used!
Three: For Bladder Issues
From Angela K. in Australia:
I have had this bladder intensity going on and have found that juniperberry; cistus, mountain savory and Thyme taken twice daily have assisted me incredibly. I put them neat into a small cup and add some water and swallow. Tastes fine, and I have added it to my Ningxia red as well.
I oscillate from taking the longevity tablets to using the oil neat into my Ning Xia red also. I love the bitey flavor. I feel so blessed to have these oils and the Essential oil desk reference to assist in times of ailments arising.
Four: Delayed menstrual cycle restored
Just like the Native Americans believed that juniper helps in birth control, though not used as a contraceptive but has similar effect, here is one testimonial from Gina W. in Mississippi:
Just had to share this exciting testimonial. My cycles have been gradually getting longer and longer. This month had gone to 51 days.
I got up on a Sunday morning and just felt led to look up Amenorrhea-which is absence of menstruation. I used the first 4 oils in the list that I had available and applied them to my ankles on the uterus and ovary points, vitaflexed them and in 45 minutes, my cycle had started!!!! The oils I used were: Basil, Juniper, Lavender and Marjoram.
Wow! Love these oils!
Other results that have been found with Juniper essential oils are the restoration of appetite, help to relieve arthritis, asthma, bruises, digestion and fatigue.
