The only real shortcut to business success

It seems like nearly every day, another announcement
of the next "shiny object" that promises to bring
you non-stop traffic and an explosion of sales lands
in your inbox.

Hopefully, by now, you've learned to recognize these
for what they really are - total bull.

The fact is, there's only one true shortcut to getting
the results you really want in business. And it's not
nearly as glamorous as the "next big thing". So what
is this shortcut that's completely reliable, regardless
of what business you're in or starting, or what shape
the economy is in?

I can tell you in three words:

Work and persistence

But how can work and persistence be a shortcut,
you ask? Because by having a solid plan and working
it diligently, you actually save much more time and
reach your goals more quickly than you would by
taking side trips with every new shiny object that
comes your way.

A case study in work and persistence
====================================

A few days ago, I received an email from Roland
Frasier sharing how he applied work and persistence
to build a business based on a system I've taught for
licensing products, services and marketing campaigns
to businesses. What struck me most was how Roland
worked the system methodically, rather than expecting
a huge windfall right out of the gate.

Instead, he realized that few businesses or entrepreneurs
grow successfully through one large strike, but staying
focused and working your system is the best shortcut
you can build into your business. So Roland started
small and built upon his success, layer by layer. Here's
what his progression looked like.

Step 1 - Test the waters
====================================

Here's how Roland puts it: "Love your stuff and am
a big believer in it. Thought you'd like to know that the
first time I used the (prospect activation campaign) with
a JV deal, I brought in about $98,000 and kept 1/4 of it."

So if we break that down, 1/4 of $98,000 comes to
$24,500. Not too bad for starting with his first client,
but not quite a Rolls Royce lifestyle yet either :-).

Step 2 - Build upon your current success by
repeating exactly what produced that success
====================================

Here's where so many businesses and entrepreneurs
go wrong. Even though a strategy or tactic has worked
well, once they've used it, they're ready to jump to
the next strategy or tactic.

But it's critical to realize that the best predictor of
future success is past success. And even though it may
not be as exciting as trying to find the next "big thing",
diligently working your system will produce consistent
growth faster than anything else.

So Roland continued to work the same system, using
the same steps, but looking to expand to working
with bigger clients. Each time, he produced a better
result, until after a year or so of growing the size
of each project methodically, he reports this major
success:

"Just a week ago, I did JVs along with my other
marketing and ended up with $1.24 Million in gross
sales on the project, with over 400 sales of a $3k
product, and 174 of them came from JVs I put together."

As you'll see in a minute, the results of this have grown
substantially from the first $24,500 Roland earned with
this system. In fact, on this piece of the project alone,
Roland's revenue was an impressive $800,000.

Step 3 - Grow your sales by working the back end
====================================

Here's a critical principle that most businesses fail to
capitalize on: once a customer has purchased something
from you and you've delivered to their satisfaction, you
now have their trust and permission to sell to them
multiple times. Here again, rather than methodically
working the back end, many businesses just move on to
searching for the excitement of the next "big thing". And
that's a huge and costly mistake.

What happens when you do work the back end
properly? I'll let Roland pick up the story again.

"From that project, I built a list of about 3,400
people, not including the 400 and some who paid $3k for
the product. Pretty cool. Now, I'm doing an event for
the 400 who bought and marketing lower end things to
the 3,400 who did not. That after-marketing should be
worth another $400,000 in profit to me, on top of the
$800,000 in commissions from the original project. Your
stuff is pretty cool, and I'm a big believer in your
licensing/JV stuff."

This is a significant piece in leveraging the shortcut I
call "work and persistence". If Roland had failed to
work the back end properly, he would have left
$400,000 on the table. But that's just the tip of the
iceberg, because in actuality, you want to continue
working the back end like clock work month after
month, and doing so will multiply your sales
exponentially.

What I've just shown you is not some mystical secret.
"Work and persistence" is a simple, logical business
practice that when applied diligently is the best shortcut
you could hope for. Anyone can apply it to any
business to produce steady growth in their sales and
profits. And at some point, by multiplying your growth
a step at a time, you reach a level of sales that most
business owners and entrepreneurs would envy.
