A blatant misuse of positive thinking

Dear Trader,

I won't reveal any names, but I have a friend who thinks all he needs
is a positive attitude to get rich. He took up FOREX trading about six
months ago, and has burned through over $20,000 as part of the
"learning curve", as he puts it.

Despite his losses, he thinks that he's going to get rich this year,
even though he is using inferior tools and is trying to teach himself
how to trade. I call that a flagrant misuse of positive thinking...

Sure, a great attitude never hurts, but no matter how good your
attitude is, you CANNOT get rich using inferior trading tools - at
least not in FOREX! But with the right tools and training, YOU CAN get
RICH (even with a bad attitude).

I just started reading this...

Abstract

The anticancer effects of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have attracted the attention of the public vis-à-vis existing cancer therapies with various side effects. Lycium barbarum fruit, commonly known as Gou Qi Zi in China, is a potential anticancer agent/adjuvant. Its major active ingredients, L. barbarum polysaccharides (LBP), scopoletin and 2-O-β-D: -glucopyranosyl-L: -ascorbic acid (AA-2βG), are found to have apoptotic and antiproliferative effects on cancer cell lines. Moreover, LBP also contributes to body's immunomodulatory effects and enhances effects of other cancer therapies. It is not known whether there are any undesirable effects. Further studies on its pharmacological mechanisms and toxicology could facilitate a safe usage of this TCM herb.

Abstract

AIM OF THE STUDY:

Lycium barbarum L. is a renowned Yin strengthening agent in traditional Chinese medicine. Lycium barbarum L. polysaccharide-protein complex is well-known for its immunoregulatory and antitumor effects. LBPF4-OL is the glycan part of Lycium barbarum L. polysaccharide-protein complex fraction 4 (LBPF4). LBPF4-OL's active contribution in LBPF4 is still blank. In the study, we enrich the polysaccharide part of Lycium barbarum L. polysaccharide-protein complex, and investigate its immunostimulatory effects on mouse spleen cells, T cells, B cells and macrophages.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

Balb/C mice were used in vitro and in vivo studies. In in vitro study, lymphocyte proliferations were analyzed with (3)H-TdR incorporation method. Miltenyi MicroBeads were used in the purification of lymphocytes. Activation of T and B cells was analyzed by flow cytometry. In order to obtain the peritoneal macrophages, mice were injected i.p. with 1mL of sodium thioglycollate 3 days prior to killing. Spleen cells were stimulated with LBPF4-OL and cytokine concentrations in the supernatants were determined by multiplex bead analysis. In in vivo study, mice were injected i.p. with 1 mL of normal saline or 100 μg/mL LBPF4-OL daily for 6 days. Peritoneal macrophage functions were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and flow cytometry assay.

RESULTS:

Spleen cells and lymphocyte proliferation assay indicated that LBPF4-OL markedly induced the spleen cell proliferation, but could not induce proliferation of purified T and B lymphocytes. Further research revealed that B cell proliferation took place in the presence of activated macrophages or LPS. Multiplex bead analysis showed that LBPF4-OL can obviously induce IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and TNF-α production of the spleen cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Flow cytometric analysis showed that LBPF4-OL (i.p.) prompts CD86 and MHC-II molecules expression on macrophages. ELISA assay showed that LBPF4-OL can greatly strengthen macrophage releasing of TNF-α and IL-1β.

CONCLUSION:

These results suggested that glycan LBPF4-OL plays an important role in the immunopharmacological activity of Lycium barbarum L. polysaccharide-protein complex, and primary mouse macrophages, rather than T and B cells, are the principal target cells of it.

The Marvelous Maitake

The Maitake mushroom, according to Raymond Chang, MD of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center,

has various degrees of immune modulating, lipid-lowering anti-tumoral and other beneficial health effects without any significant toxicity. A 2001 study conducted at the Toya Medical and Pharmaceutical University in Japan found that Maitake  polysaccharides drastically increased the killing power of macrophage immune cells. 

 

A recent study by researchers at the New York Medical College, found that polysaccharides from Maitake drastically slowed the growth of prostate tumor cells.  Even more surprising, it was determined that vitamin C enhanced the effect of polysaccharides by 8 to 16 times. Again, what did that just say..that vitamin C enhanced the effect?  And what is in wolf-berry, and how many times higher is it than natural ascorbic acid?  Do you see what happens here when we start compounding these formula?

 

Extraordinary Polysaccharides

 

We have research at the Veterans' General Hospital in Taiwan showed that the gamaderma polysaccharides stimulated human immune cells, macrophages and T-lymphacytes, too, dramatically increase their output of Interleukin-1, Interleukin-6, T and F and gamma interferon.

 

Recent studies at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai found that Reishi polysaccharides multiplied T-cells by over 50%, B-cells by 55%, immuglobulan-G by almost 10%.  Further studies identified 1.3 beta glucans, 1.4 beta glucans, and 1.6 beta glucans which dramatically enhance counts of T- and B-lymphocytes involved in both cell mediated and humoral immunity.  Larch polysaccharides derived from the larch accidentalists larch tree grows in St. Maries.  The tree uses the polysaccharides to heal itself after lightning strikes.  Larch polysaccharides occur naturally in other immune stimulating herbs.

Research of an institute in Germany has shown that the polysaccharides activate NK (natural killer) cells by increasing levels of gamma interferon.

Powerful Limonene

 

It was interesting that after September 11 last year we sold out of Thyme in just a matter of three or four days.  There was a big rush on it.  Clove, the strongest antioxidant, is highest on the ORAC of the Essential Oils.  Orange, rich in limonene. 

 

There is tremendous research coming out now on Orange and Grapefruit oil, and naturally Lemon oil on the value of limonene as an anti-tumoral agent and even some case studies.  This was a case study that was conducted several years ago at the Wisconsin University.  Dr. Michael Ghoul's colleagues found that 5% limonene (a diet fed to test animals for 18 to 30 weeks) resulted in a 66% drop in mammary tumor incidence and a 42% drop in animals with a palatable tumor. 

 

I received this research a number of years ago and I got really excited and called and tried to talk to the department about it, but it was sad that the research was being conducted on a synthetic limonene to see what the results were.  When they saw the results were so effective they went on to do studies with natural limonene extracted from Orange peel oil. It was very exciting!  You see here again the effects of Orange oil and the limonene on tumor incidents.  Of course, the cortisol levels shoot and the antioxidant activity and the limonene, how it brings that down, so it is really a powerful anti-tumoral agent.

 

In 1997 in the Department of Medical Oncology at the Taurene Cross Hospital in London 32 patients with advanced breast and colon cancer completed 99 courses of limonene administrated orally.  Dosages ranged from 1 gram to 16 grams per day and researchers found promising results…."

• Ganoderma lucidum extract induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in MCF-7 human breast cancer cell.  International Journal of Cancer, Volume 102 Issue 3, Pages 250-253.
• Gao Y, et al. Effects of Ganopoly ( Ganoderma lucidum Polysaccharide Extract) on the Immune Functions in Advanced-Stage Cancer Patients. Immunol Invest 2003;32(3): 201-15. Thirty-four patients with advanced-stage cancer of various tissues were given 1800 mg of oral Ganopoly three times daily before meals for 12 weeks. Cytokines, T-cell subsets, and natural killer activity were measured to assess the effects of Ganopoly. Researchers found a significant increase in T-cell populations and NK activity at the 12-week period compared to baseline although the mechanism is unclear. More studies are needed to confirm these observations.

Never Sick

I am very rarely sick and it is low symptoms and short lived the rare time it does come around.

Gwyneth Paltrow Told Me To...

I was sitting at a cafe reflecting on the last few months 

and I noticed something wrong.

 

I realized that most of the time I felt a sense of urgency, 

a low level stress that I had a lot to get done and not 

enough time to do it.

 

That's not my stlye. I pride myself on a relaxed schedule 

and perhaps more importantly, a relaxed mindset.

 

I had lost my way a little bit, but thanks to Gwyneth Paltrow 

I have again discovered how things should be.
