in Australia. Before I head out for some fun on
Friday night I like to watch some of the videos
that have been floating around the Internet
marketing web this week.
Here's my pick for you to watch:

This video is from Don Crowther and his specialty
is social media, but not just general social media
tips, he focuses on how to make money from it.
He's not some kind of self-proclaimed expert
either, he actually consults to large
corporations, so we're talking real businesses
here.
I just watched Don's first video, which
emphasizes that there are TWO types of social
media.
Social media that...
1. Makes you money
2. Just makes you friends
If you have business goals, then it should be
pretty clear which is the type you want.
Don's video starts with statistics about how big
social media is, like how many Facebook users
there are, and how many people watch videos on
YouTube etc - all mind boggling stuff.
He then shows how businesses are making use of
social media to make money. Again interesting
stuff, but more inspiring than practical - and
I'm all about the practical.
The practical bits start towards the second half
of the video where Don presents some fantastic and
very subtle education on the different types of
social media users and how to attract them.
Keeping a clear division between the social media
you use just for friendships and what you do to
build business relationships to make money is
absolutely critical.
Making money from social media requires a much
more strategic approach and I have to admit,
Don's video really opened my eyes to some key
distinctions, things that I don't do...yet.
This goes way beyond just setting up a business
page in Facebook. This is about what type of
content to produce and where to put it. When and
how to ask for money, when and how to give content
and when and how to be personal.
This is a great presentation, and well worth the
25 minutes it takes to watch all the way through.
