My Roadtrip To The Country

On Tuesday I drove down to the Gold Coast hinterland, a
beautiful hilly area inland from the beach side coast, about
an hour drive south from me in Brisbane.

I was heading to meet with Liz and Matt Raad to talk about
possibly doing some kind of live event with them next year.

The visit was for an exploratory initial conversation over lunch,
the first time I had traveled to their home.

Here's a photo I took with the Raads for my Instagram

For the drive down I wanted to listen to something educational.

Next year I am releasing new information products, including
a subscription site and a couple of e-guide packages on
topics I know a thing or two about. I thought now would be a
good time to remind myself of the info marketing fundamentals.

DO YOU KNOW THE FUNDAMENTALS?

Last week a new presentation popped into my email inbox from
Eben Pagan's team -

Eben covers his introductory training on how to find
a money making subject for information products and
quickly create your first product.

At the end of the presentation is an offer to take one of his
courses on information products, however the price is $97
rather than his usual $1,000 or $2,000.

I was happy to hear this as I had no intention of pitching
another $1,000+ product to my readers. I think 99% of people
are not interested at that price range.

I decided to listen to the webinar on the way down to the
coast to decide whether I would recommend it to you.

Since I'm about to release information products of my own,
it wouldn't hurt to go over Eben's advice. He's still my
favourite trainer on this subject.

Eben's style is so clear, and there's something about the
way he teaches that just hits me between the eyes and I
can't stop listening, even for the basics.

HOW TO SELECT A NICHE

I'm noticing in conversations with internet marketers lately
that the "formula" for coming up with a profitable subject
is changing, especially when it comes to niche websites.

The main two culprits for these changes are -

1. Greater competition online

2. Constant changes to Google search algorithms

You can't just stick up a website with the right content
and keywords and make money next week. There's more to it.

I was keen to get a refresher on how Eben teaches topic selection.

Eben's more detailed breakdown, but in a nutshell, these
are and have always been his principles for finding money
making niches -

1. Go where people are already hungry

2. Find niches where the competition is limited or inferior,
but people are searching in significant enough volume

3. Focus on one of the three mega niches, which are:

     A) Health and Wellness
     B) Dating and Relationships
     C) Money and Finance

I actually add a fourth mega niche to this list, which I
call the "product fanatics", which includes any category
of product where people follow and buy religiously, such as
shoes, tech gadgets, mobile phones, etc.

This may also include hobby fanatics, like car enthusiasts,
professional sports like baseball, basketball and football
and any other category where people spend a large chunk of
their disposable income and free time indulging in.

Obviously these ideas are more conceptual than practical.

You can extrapolate on this and look into keyword research
and competitor analysis to see where the traffic and money
is currently, but it pays to first think about these
concepts as your step one for idea generation.

For more details, just watch the presentation from Eben.

CORE CONCEPT: MOVE THE FREELINE

I was reminded during the presentation of some core information
marketing concepts that I've sort of forgotten about.

I still use them, but my brain has become so autopilot that
I forget that these things are important pieces of the puzzle.

It helps to label them too. Give them a name so you remind
yourself what tools you have available to you.

One such concept Eben talked about is the idea behind
"moving the freeline".

This is such a fundamental principle, yet until I heard Eben
articulate it again, I forgot just how important it is.

The concept is simple enough:

Give people your best ideas for free.

There's a lot of psychology behind why this works, and
leads to people buying from you, but I know a lot of people
have trouble grasping it.

Why give away your most valuable idea?

If you can get over this fear and actually do it, you will
see how powerful it is.

WATCH THE PRESENTATION

As you can see I really did enjoy my hour long refresher
with Eben.

You can watch the presentation yourself, no opt-in required, here:

There is a $97 product offer at the end, but the presentation has
enough to get you started. I'll leave it up to you to
decide if you want to pay for more and if you do, thank you
for purchasing via my link.

I enjoyed my visit to the country and I love that I can use
the time driving for education.

It's one of the only times I can really focus because I
have to sit in the car and drive, so listening is my only
option.

I hope you take advantage of your driving time too. While
music is a great option, which I choose sometimes, you can
study entire courses or listen to interviews and webinars
while traveling and learn a lot.

This is one of those simple choices people make that
lead to results online. Study every opportunity you can
because the smartest people win.

I'll talk to you soon,
